Lancaster, PA (PRWEB) November 06, 2012
The Lancaster County Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square is pleased to announce a partnership with the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center in Lancaster, Pa. The goal of the partnership is to provide an educational rotation at the Lancaster hotel and convention center for students of the center’s Event Planning and Tourism Services Management program.
Twenty participants from the program (high school students from throughout Lancaster County) will report to the integrated facility once per week through early May 2013 to delve into key areas of the hospitality industry. The students will learn about security, engineering, housekeeping, front office operations, banquet services, culinary, restaurant, sales, accounting, and human resources – and how these functions come together to provide a world-class guest experience.
“This partnership is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community as well as support the budding careers of some of our own future employees,” said Michael O’Connor, Director of Human Resources at the Lancaster County Convention Center and Marriott at Penn Square. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to support this program,” OConnor said.
“Several factors merge to make this an extraordinary opportunity for both the students and our facility,” said Josh Nowak, Sales & Marketing Director for the facility. “Hospitality is the second largest industry in Lancaster; Interstate Hotels & Resorts (the operator of the facility) is the leading U.S.-based global hotel management company; and this facility is a landmark destination unparalleled in the region,” Nowak explained.
“Combine these factors with the interest and engagement of some of the brightest students in Lancaster County who are interested in careers in hospitality, and we are looking forward to a very gratifying experience,” Nowak said.
