Qsymia, a new weight loss pill, is not generating the profit for parent company Vivus, which was expected. The reason is the out-of-pocket cost for the pill, according to the Vivus public relations department. While a number of patients are getting a prescription for the pill from their doctor, some 30 percent are not picking up the prescription from the pharmacy, Vivus reports.
With co-pays averaging $60 a month, the prescription is just abandoned.
“That’s 60 bucks that could be spent on something else. That’s a lot of money for a weight loss pill,” said Dr. Charles Livingston, an Indiana chiropractor and certified nutrition specialist. “The added problem is the people who take the pill may suffer side effects. I’ll also bet you if they ever stop taking the pill, their weight will come back.”
Real and long term weight loss requires a person to adjust the way the live, he said. No pills are needed.
“All you need to do is learn how to eat healthy and engage in 15 minutes of exercise three times a week,” said the man who prefers to be called Dr. Charles. “That’s all you need to do.”
Dr. Charles has developed a long-term successful weight loss program he discusses at FatBurningSuccess.com. The program has been used by many patients in his clinic and has led to long term weight loss.
“Most people really don’t understand what healthy eating is all about. They don’t understand that you can eat ‘bad’ foods in moderation as long as you balance that with foods that help you burn off fat and lose weight,” he said. “And yes, exercise is necessary. But you don’t have to live in a gym. When I say 15 minutes a day, three times a week, I mean it.”
Healthy food can be purchased at any good grocery store, he said. People just need to know what food to buy. His program includes an ebook which shows people the inexpensive food they can buy which helps with weight loss.
“You don’t need to buy prepackaged food. You don’t need to wait for a delivery truck to show up with your meals. You can buy at a grocery store, cook at home and eat well,” he said.
Dr. Charles program even lets people eat some fast food at the most popular fast food restaurants.
“You really can eat what you want. You just have to do it in moderation and keep up your healthy eating habits and the bit of exercise,” he said. “Once you commit to the lifestyle change, and it’s not a difficult change, you will lose weight and keep it off.”
