When the Thomson Prison was sold to the federal government it was a deal that was said to eventually create over 1,000 jobs for a struggling economy. For this reason this quaint and quiet village along the beautiful Mississippi River is launching the new and vastly improved website, http://www.ThomsonIllinois.com. This new site illustrates the many reasons people should make Thomson a destination stop along their journey along Highway 84.
This dynamic and engaging website shows stunning photographs of Thomson, IL and the surrounding area, including some exclusive aerial photos. The site also features a welcome video, a list of area attractions, upcoming events, and a weekly blog featuring Thomson’s very own Bob Whitten, an award-winning columnist from the Clinton Herald.
Gary Heide, owner of the Mississippi River Lodge and webmaster for http://www.GoCarrollCounty.com has a passion for Thomson and the surrounding community. He describes Thomson as, “Enjoy all that Carroll County has to offer. Located in Northwest Illinois, Carroll County is filled with friendly small towns like Thomson, historic charm, natural beauty, rolling hills and scenic drives. The magnificent Mississippi River shimmers in the sun and provides a great back drop for outdoor adventures. In late June of this year (2012), The Heirloom Market opened a new café, forming The Heirloom Market & Café. Located in the middle of Thomson, these two organizations combined to make a truly outstanding and refreshing destination stop along scenic Route 84.
With everything seeming to come together at the right moments, Thomson is becoming more and more of a destination location. This website captures the wholesome beauty of the area while opening the eyes of people who have never visited the region and lending support and encouragement to local residents. The stunning photographs of the region and the expert commentary from Bob Whitten, this website paints a picture of the city of Thomson and lends them just enough to beg people to come and enjoy the location.

The beautiful banks of Thomson, IL find themselves almost directly between the Quad Cities and Galena, IL. “We know that we have a great location for either a destination stop or a rest stop for anyone passing by on a day trip. We need everyone else to know what a great place Thomson really is,” said Bill Heid, owner of Solutions From Science, the parent company for The Heirloom Market and Café. Heid continued, “My family and I love Thomson, and that is why I started my business here and why I want to keep my business here. I just want others to experience the same Thomson my family loves.”
