The UN’s failure to enforce Resolution 350 jeopardizes the peace and safety of the entire region—including Israel.
(PRWEB) November 08, 2012
Over the past 18 months, thousands of innocent people have been killed in the Syrian conflict. Those killed have included women and children and people of various nationalities.
Several days ago, the conflict spread to the Golan Heights, and the Circassian villages of Beer Ajam and Bareqa. There are currently hundreds—and possibly thousands—of innocent Circassians in harm’s way.
Under UN Resolution 350, the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights consists of 1,032 peacekeeping troops, 42 international staff and 92 local civilian staff—all of whom continue to stand by and do nothing while innocent Circassians are being killed.
As the Circassian death toll rises, we call on the United Nations (UN) and the International Community to honor UN Resolutions 350. This resolution calls for the demilitarization of the Golan Heights of Syria. Syria’s actions—and the United Nation’s failure to act—are in direct violation of UN Resolution 350.
We, the Circassians of the world, call upon the United Nations and the international community to:
Honor UN Resolution 350 and pull all armed forces out of the Golan Heights
Safely evacuate the villages of Beer Ajam and Bareqa
Provide humanitarian assistance in the form of food and medical attention to those in need
We hope that the international community realizes that the UN’s failure to enforce Resolution 350 jeopardizes the peace and safety of the entire region—including Israel.
Our demands are entirely of a humanitarian nature. We hope and pray that the conflict in Syria ends in short order. For the time being, our immediate goal is the safety of our fellow Circassians in the villages of Beer Ajam and Bareqa.
To this end, Circassians for United Nations Resolution 350 will be staging a peaceful demonstration in front of the United Nations headquarters (405 East 42nd Street New York, NY) on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 12:00 PM.
Note: Circassians for United Nations Resolution 350 is a grassroots movement lead by Circassians living in the United States. Originally from the North Caucasus of the present-day Russian Federation, Circassians found themselves forcibly expelled from their homeland following the Russian-Circassian War (1763 – 1864). Resettled across the Ottoman Empire, the majority of Circassians in the United States are of Syrian origin and relocated to the United States following the Six-Day War (1967).
