Author Lisa Simmons, wife of LAPD SWAT officer Randy Simmons, a man tragically killed in the line of duty, has penned a memoir of his extraordinary life, “41 D Man of Valor: The Story of SWAT Officer Randy Simmons” (published by iUniverse).

Every spouse of a military member or law enforcement officer fears that jarring middle-of-the-night phone call. Simmons lived that nightmare on Feb. 7, 2008, when her 51-year-old husband, Randy, responded to a “SWAT call-up” in Winnetka, Calif. He was tragically killed at the hands of a deranged man during an 11-hour hostage rescue standoff that resulted in a quadruple homicide.

“41 D Man of Valor” is a true story, told through the heart and spirit of Randy’s loving wife, that tells a fascinating tale about a man who not only carried out his mission as an extraordinary SWAT officer, but gave selflessly and tirelessly to help thousands of people in underserved areas of Los Angeles and abroad.

As she attends countless ceremonies held in honor of her husband’s ultimate sacrifice, Simmons wrestles with trying to understand the dangerous tactics used surrounding Randy’s death and her loyalty to the police department in which he served. With honesty, candor and a sincere level of conviction, she shares this must-read story about a man who continues to inspire in death as much as he did in life.
