Dr. Michael Stosich, a Gurnee orthodontics provider who owns iDentity Orthodontics, announced in September that he's been appointed to the University of Chicago Medical Center's craniofacial services team.

The University of Chicago Medical Center announced in September it appointed Dr. Michael Stosich, a Gurnee orthodontics specialist, as lead orthodontist on its craniofacial services team.

Stosich, who provides orthodontics for adults and children at his private practice, iDentity Orthodontics, will begin his work on the team later this year.

This appointment enables Stosich to work with numerous plastic and reconstructive surgery experts in UC's Craniofacial Anomalies Multidisciplinary Program. This team takes a comprehensive approach to evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for children with craniosynostosis and other craniofacial disorders including cleft lip, cleft palate, and Treacher-Collins and Crouzon syndromes.

The University of Chicago is a leading institution for this kind of treatment, and this team is nationally ranked and recognized.

Craniofacial work is Stosich's passion. He completed a craniofacial fellowship at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania. Thanks to his work there, decision-makers conducting the recruitment process felt like they found an ideal fit with Stosich.

"I'm honored to be at the University of Chicago Medicine, " Stosich said. "It is quite exciting to work with notable specialists and to give back to the community where I grew up."

Many cases Stosich will work with require following patients from birth to adulthood. This builds a close relationship with the patient and the family members patients bring with them.

"They see the changes in their loved one's personality and self-esteem as the treatments progress," Stosich said. "That makes this work even more meaningful and rewarding. When you see the difference you make in terms of life quality for these kids, that's really the reward."
