Mother Goose School, a trusted child care development preschool program in San Francisco, recently introduced health and nutrition as the school's theme during the month of November. The staff will present curriculum and supplemental activities that focus on teaching children and parents about the process, practicality and rewards of healthy food habits. Children will have opportunities to safely prepare and eat snacks in the classroom. For some students, there will be additional food experiences, such as rinsing and preparing fruits and vegetables, kneading dough and baking.

"We encourage families to have their child(ren) safely participate in some of the food preparation at mealtime," said Mr. Charles, program director of Mother Goose School. "Opportunities that directly involve children teach them the value and process of making food and following directions. Child friendly recipes make the activity manageable and children are also more interested in eating the food they have prepared. Mother Goose School wishes families a safe and restful Thanksgiving break."

Most significantly, Mother Goose School offers key advice for parents about helping a picky eater try new foods. The school recommends that parents encourage their child to actively participate in thoughtful mealtime conversations, both at home and when dining out. They also suggest that parents be creative and patient when introducing new food and give children the opportunity to practice trying new foods.

For students who will be attending kindergarten next fall, Mother Goose School provides information to enrolled families regarding the Kindergarten selection process. Flyers from different schools in the Bay area are posted and online inquires are encouraged. Parents are encouraged to visit prospective Kindergarten programs. Mother Goose does its best to prepare students for their next school experience and support families with the selection process.
