Jeron’s Provider(R) 790 Nurse Call Automates Workflow and Delivers Hospital-Wide Patient Care Efficiencies

Workflow software for Jeron's Provider 790 acute care nurse call platform offers the dual benefits of greater staff efficiency and improved patient satisfaction in a fully customizable solution.

It’s all about patient satisfaction. Something as basic as speeding bed turnover can have an enormous impact on improving patient satisfaction.

Today Myles Cochran, Marketing Director at Jeron Electronic Systems, announced the workflow application options for the company’s Provider® 790 hospital nurse call communications system. According to Cochran, “The process benefit delivered by this enhanced functionality continues to transform ‘traditional’ nurse call from a simple communications platform to an entire system optimizing efficiency within and across nursing units, departments, facilities … even entire hospital campuses.”

Provider 790 workflow options are designed to streamline hundreds of customizable events, alerting the designated staff member to an active workflow event via pocket pager, text messages, wireless phone or networked displays – all without noisy overhead pages or time-wasting manual phone calls and follow-up. If the event isn’t addressed within a pre-set time period, the systems alerts designated back-up team members.

According to the American Hospital Association Environmental Scan 2013, “a 300-bed hospital with poor quality metrics could be penalized by more than $1.3 million per year. Even more important, these hospitals could suffer reputational damage as these metrics are published online.” According to Cochran, this example drives home the consequences of failing to improve workflow. “It’s all about patient satisfaction. Something as basic as utilizing the workflow functionality to speed bed turnover can have an enormous impact on improving patient satisfaction. Patients spend less time in hallways or the ED waiting for a room. EVS knows instantly when a room needs cleaning and Admitting knows the instant the bed is clean and available.”

Highlights of the Provider 790 workflow option include:

To initiate a single workflow event or a sequence, the staff member presses the
appropriate button. The alert is automatically sent to pagers, phones, and/or PC display. There are no additional manual processes or follow-up needed; the workflow event is automated from that point forward.

Hundreds of workflow events are available. The button labels on the touchscreen workflow stations are programmable to match each workflow event while the 4-button station labels can be customized in the field. Both the touchscreen and 4-button stations can be intermixed on the same Provider 790 system to meet each area’s needs.

A workflow event can be a single on/off event notification - or - up to four workflow buttons can be sequenced together, so that pressing the next button in the sequence automatically cancels the previous event.

If a workflow event remains active beyond a preset time period, the system can automatically notify the appropriate staff member again or automatically route the event to a backup staff member or a manager. This automated operation ensures workflow events aren’t unintentionally forgotten.

The programmable Jeron Prism™ Dome Lights located outside each patient room indicate an active workflow event to direct staff to the appropriate patient room.

Wireless phone or pocket pager integrations notify staff of a workflow event regardless of the staff member’s location on the patient floor or throughout the entire facility.

From any Windows® computer on the facility LAN, users can sign in and monitor workflow events for one, several, or all areas and for specific workflow events pertinent to their duties. The active workflow event will indicate the room, bed (if applicable), the event type, and a timer showing how long the event has been waiting.
