A leading Yale-affiliated dermatologist aims to educate consumers about skincare, clear up the hype, and demystify the confusing information out there on skincare products and procedures.

Dr. Alicia Zalka, a Yale-affiliated dermatologist with a private practice in Connecticut, has announced the launch of her new venture, Surface Deep (http://www.surface-deep.com), an initiative dedicated to demystifying the overwhelming and sometimes misleading business of skincare, with the goal of helping consumers make informed decisions before spending time and money on products and procedures.

With Surface Deep, Dr. Zalka offers complimentary guidance, advice, and support on product ingredients, procedure truths, proper skincare, and other issues pertaining to skin, nail and hair health. The information is available at http://www.surface-deep.com, YouTube (youtube.com/asksurfacedeep), Twitter (http://twitter.com/surface_deep) and Facebook (facebook.com/asksurfacedeep).

According to Dr. Zalka explains, “My goal with Surface Deep is to state simply and honestly which skin care trends, products, and beliefs are medically proven to deliver results, and which are marketing ploys designed to take your confidence and money.”

“I am concerned about the ‘disconnect’ between the growing number of skin and hair care products on the market and the lack of appropriate information about their true results. I will share the facts and help people make informed decisions about what is best for them. I am not associated with any product or pushing any particular label. I focus on ingredients and truth, not hype or packaging,” she explains.

Surface Deep aims to be the go-to resource for those looking to understand what products, ingredients, and treatments can and cannot really do, and what their options are without breaking the bank on an increasingly crowded marketplace.

Surface Deep will remain updated with questions and information that Dr. Zalka is asked the most by her patients and at her lectures, as well as the latest topics and technology in the news. The content will include tips, facts and more, in the form of blogs, posts, and video, including “a day in the life of your skin,” her signature videos.

“So much of my time spent with patients is about educating them about caring for their skin, hair and nails, but also about unraveling their long-embraced notions about skin that come from marketing instead of science and experience. I hope to support not only my patients, but now consumers at large, through Surface Deep.”

Dr. Zalka is on staff at Danbury Hospital and New Milford Hospital, and is a Clinical Attending at the Yale University Department of Dermatology. In private practice since 1995, she is President and Managing Partner of Dermatology Associates of Western Connecticut (Danbury, CT) with offices also in Ridgefield, Southbury and New Milford, CT. She cares for patients in every age group, and practices medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She is not aligned with any brand or product.

Note to editors: Dr. Zalka is available for interviews with you to discuss any issues pertaining to skin and hair care for all ages, including: product ingredients; health conditions/issues; skin/dermatological procedures; anti-aging products and issues; skin cancer; and much more.
