Tampa, FL (PRWEB) November 08, 2012
Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) completed its second annual "Learn for the Cure" fundraiser, raising $5,271 to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Students eagerly participated in two fundraising events to commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"UMA presented the Learn for the Cure campaign to our online students, along with our donation goal, and I am now pleased to announce the outstanding results," stated Steven Kemler, CEO of Ultimate Medical Academy. "Our students have made a significant contribution to the fight against breast cancer and we look forward to continued efforts to fundraise for Susan G. Komen for the Cure."
With the first event, UMA promised to donate $1 on behalf of each student who completed their graded coursework on time. One group of motivated students responded by turning in their coursework five days early. Other students followed suit, ultimately raising $4,463.
The second event was a week-long Facebook awareness campaign encouraging students to share survivor stories, tributes and experiences. For every "like," UMA donated $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Students rallied to support the cause with moving stories and comments on UMA's Facebook page. Students, friends and family responded to the Facebook posts with an outstanding 808 "likes" that raised additional funds.
With the goal of making a difference in the world of healthcare, UMA encourages both its online and campus-based students to start making an impact even before they graduate by participating in fundraising events such as these. Online students are preparing for careers in Health Information Technology, Medical Billing and Coding, Healthcare Management and other healthcare specialties. An email announcement informed online students that Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the largest source of funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world, a fight that one in every eight women will face. Communications also encouraged students to read the non-profit's "Helpful Tips for Women" page regarding the importance of preventative measures and early detection.
UMA presented students with the challenge, "As you begin classes on Monday, know that everything you do makes a difference. Help us get one dollar closer to a world without breast cancer by Learning for the Cure!" UMA students answered the call with a resounding, "yes" through their participation and stirring testimonials.
