Basic rules of supply and demand say that when restaurants close for Thanksgiving, American families go hungry or, even worse, just eat Pizza Hot Pockets.

Reston, VA (PRWEB) November 09, 2012

In an act of unparalleled nobility and generosity, MapMuse today announced the 2012 release of the Restaurants Open on Thanksgiving Locator, a free web tool that connects folks who refuse to cook Thanksgiving dinner with over 5,000 restaurants that are all too happy to serve them. Humanitarians across the country are applauding the map's release, which, come November 22nd, will ensure that travelers and no-cook families can enjoy a hearty turkey dinner—provided they can afford the holiday entrees served at Cracker Barrel, Denny's, and other quality dining establishments.

“Basic rules of supply and demand say that when restaurants close for Thanksgiving, American families go hungry or, even worse, just eat Pizza Hot Pockets,” says Mike Pilon, owner of MapMuse. “We're hoping that the Restaurants Open on Thanksgiving Locator greatly reduces the likelihood of either tragedy happening.” The Locator is built on an interactive map that plots the locations of every restaurant that will remain open. Users can choose from a wide range of mom and pop cafés, upscale eateries, dive bars, and highly mediocre Chinese joints, as well as national chains such as Cracker Barrel, Denny’s, Golden Corral, Boston Market, and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

Each restaurant is represented on the map by an icon, which, when clicked on, brings up its profile page. The profile page contains essential information such as contact details, cuisine type, kitchen hours, and web links. “We try to include as much info as possible so diners don't have to leave anything up to chance,” say Pilon. “I mean, it’s one of the most important decisions they'll make that week.”

Once a user locates a restaurant with promise, they can get driving directions there via Google Maps. However, calling ahead for reservations beforehand is strongly advised. “Expect these places to be packed, because there really aren't better options,” says Pilon. While turkey will likely be the star of the menu at most restaurants, it is also probably worth verifying what each restaurant serving in advance. "It's a little known fact that with a bit of creativity, you can create your very own turducken by combining various items from Golden Corral's buffet," suggests Pilon, licking his lips.

The Restaurants Open on Thanksgiving Locator can be accessed free of charge at mapmuse.com/thanksgiving. Users may also be interested in other Thanksgiving themed maps, including the Turkey Trots Locator (to burn off all those Turducken calories) and the Thanksgiving Day Parades Locator.
