Our goal is to create a team of artists, funders, and educators who think that education and imagination should be united as one concept.
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) November 08, 2012
The retro-carnival arts-themed Peralta Junction Project has taken over a 24,000 square-foot lot at 2012 Peralta Street in West Oakland (near the intersection of Mandela Parkway and West Grand Avenue) and has transformed it for the months of October and November into a creative community space filled with art and commerce. Peralta Junction organizers, One Hat One Hand and Commonplace Productions, are pleased to announce the grand opening on November 10, 2012 of the monumental, interactive art project–The Life Size Mousetrap–an enthralling human-scaled version of the classic children’s game.
The Life Size Mousetrap is a visually stunning work of science-inspired art and performance. The world’s largest board game uses the tools of wonder and anticipation to plant the seeds of curiosity about Newtonian mechanics with a 25-ton Rube Goldberg Machine. The team of artists that built the Mousetrap have developed a unique program of fun-based engineering that they have packaged into a traveling road show, reaching audiences of all ages via science centers, museums, and festivals across the United States.
“In these times of seemingly endless virtual and digital experiences, it is crucial for children and adults alike to have real-life encounters with the scientific principles that govern our world," says Mark Perez, the key force behind the Mousetrap. He adds, “Our goal is to create a team of artists, funders, and educators who think that education and imagination should be united as one concept.”
The Peralta Junction Project and The Life Size Mousetrap are pleased to join forces to bring this amazing project to West Oakland as key attraction during three weekends from November 10 to November 25, 2012. The Mousetrap is accompanied by a series of performances and workshops, and will operate on Saturdays at 2:00, 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:00 and 5:00 p.m.
One Hat One Hand is a design-build collective that creates–when not undertaking rich public art endeavors–sets, artwork, and installations for the film, commercial photography, and music industries. Commonplace Productions develops and produces interactive art ventures.
