Fiji’s national carrier, Air Pacific Fiji Airways, through the Wings of Hope charity raffle on October 10, today donated $36,700 to FRIEND (Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises n Development) for the education of needy children.
Air Pacific dedicated its Fiji Day "New Horizons" A330 unveiling event to the charity to which it donated $100,000 earlier in the year for scholarships and aid for children who were affected by the floods that devastated the Western Division.
All raffle ticket sales were matched 100% by Air Pacific, continuing its pledge to its charity arm.
Represented by its MD/CEO, Dave Pflieger, and members of the team that ran the raffle and sold tickets, Air Pacific presented the cheque to FRIEND Founder, Ms Sashi Kiran at the NGO’s headquarters in Tuvu, Lautoka.
Mr Pflieger said at the cheque handover “It is an honour and privilege for employees of Air Pacific to hand over this cheque to FRIEND. FRIEND is an outstanding organisation that does superb work supporting the education and healthcare of Fijian children. They are highly deserving of our support and we applaud them for their incredible efforts bettering the lives of families and children in communities around Fiji.”
FRIEND Founder and Director Sashi Kiran thanked Air Pacific for their latest donation and for the airline's continued commitment to helping underprivileged and flood affected children.
“What really touched me during the Suva raffle event was how genuine Air Pacific and its staff were in helping and believing in us, doing their best to sell raffle tickets and raise money well into the night. It would have been easy enough to sell tickets for just an hour or so, but they took the hard road and kept going out and selling more tickets to raise more and more money for many hours."
That’s when I realized it wasn’t just another corporate donation, their effort had the full commitment of management and all their staff.”
“I want to thank the entire Air Pacific team for their continued belief in us and what we do,” added Ms Kiran.
