In advance of the year-end holidays, Marcel’s Culinary Experience (http://www.marcelsculinaryexperience.com), a gourmet retailer and recreational cooking school in Glen Ellyn, Ill. (Chicago suburb), has added a gift basket service.

Customers can choose their own contents, or select from nine designs, starting at $40, all crafted by the Marcel’s staff:

  • Best of the Midwest -- three styles ($40-$120) feature small-batch gourmet food items handcrafted by Midwest-based purveyors including Cacao’s Sweets & Treats, Chili Dawg, Intelligentsia Coffee, Jo Snow Syrups, O’My Goodness, Potter’s Crackers, Rare Bird Preserves, Salted Caramel, and Sweet Secrets.
  • Marcel’s Favorite Picks -- three styles ($50-$135) based on the store’s customer and staff feedback. Includes items from Bella Cucina, Hammond’s Candies, Hampton Popcorn Company, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Lillie’s Q, Rustic Bakery, Saxon Premium Nuts, and The Scrumptious Pantry.
  • Snack Break -- three styles ($50-$105) feature sweet snacks, savory snacks, or a combination. Brands include East Shore Pretzels, Cherith Valley, Matiz, and Schoolhouse Kitchen.

Marcel’s will keep a quantity of premade gift baskets in all nine styles ready for immediate purchase through the end of the year, according to Proprietor Jill Foucré.

Customers can also create their own gift baskets for assembly by the Marcel’s staff, integrating, if desired, the professional tools, tablewares, and other one-of-a-kind items sold there. Marcel’s, which opened in September 2011 in historic downtown Glen Ellyn, carries merchandise from leading brands, including All Clad, Emile Henry, Jan Barboglio, Juliska, Jura Capresso, Le Creuset, Mauviel, Rosle, Terrafirma Ceramics, Shine Handmade, Shun, Simon Pearce, Viking, and Wusthof, to name just a few.

Customers can pick up their gift basket purchases at the store, or Marcel’s will ship anywhere in the United States.

“A gift basket is a great way to thank your holiday hosts or hostesses, clients, employees, coworkers, vendors, teachers, or anyone else you are looking to acknowledge as the year winds to a close,” said Foucré.
