Alex Miranda, CEO of the company, believes it’s time to unmask the artists behind great event flyers we see across Miami. “Remember that after-hours club called “The Mix” on South Beach back in the late 90’s?” says Alex Miranda. “When I see a flyer of the mix, and I see the iconic yawning character, I’m transported back to the bass-filled walls with David Padilla spinning heart-pumping trance. That’s what a great event flyer can do. That’s why artists that created event brands like that need to be recognized.”
Ruben Vazquez (@rubenv3000), Creative Director at The Creative Complex, will curate the event being held at Chalk Miami on South Beach (1234 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139). Ruben is one of the most influential nightlife graphic designers in the country, having done thousands of event flyers for Miami nightclubs like Mansion, Set, Opium Garden, Prive, Mokai, Louis, and many more across the United States.
The event is Friday, December 7, 2012 from 8pm – Midnight. There will be a complimentary Vodka open bar from 8pm-9pm. The event is free, but you must register to attend at http://www.ngdgshow.com/rsvp. Graphic Designers interested in submitting artwork, or sponsors interested in participating in the show should contact Alex Miranda at 305-603-8478 for more information.
Titled “NGDG”, artists in the Nightlife Graphic Design community will be invited to exhibit and sell original art pieces. Artists will be present to curate their work.
“We’re starting a movement here. Nightlife graphic design has major roots in Miami and we’re here to propel that into the art community,” says Alex Miranda. “And every year, a greater number of art collectors, artists, dealers, curators, critics and art enthusiasts from around the world will see our influence grow.”
Designers have notoriously close connections to nightlife culture; promoting parties and popping bottles in the VIP. Today, Alex Miranda stakes his claim that nightlife graphic design must begin its run to be considered a respected and new art form, a rich medium with no restrictions and plenty of creative freedom.
“I regard it as a new and rising art form, worthy of its own gallery show,” says Alex.
Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit Jose’s Hands (http://www.joseshands.org), a not-for-profit charitable organization that performs medical mission trips to South America and the Caribbean.
