"Holiday Windows provides us with a unique opportunity to help animals in need. The event not only helps homeless animals find new families, but it also raises awareness about important animal welfare issues such as pet overpopulation and homelessness."
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 12, 2012
The San Francisco SPCA is once again teaming up with Macy's for Holiday Windows, the annual event where adoptable animals are showcased in Macy's holiday windows in Union Square. The Windows will be unveiled by Mayor Willie Brown and 49ers running back LaMichael James on November 16 at 5 p.m., at the corner of Stockton and O'Farrell Streets. The Windows will remain open through January 1. Iconic San Francisco neighborhoods provide the theme for this year's Windows. Last year's event was the most successful ever; more than 325 animals found new homes and nearly $80,000 was raised for the SF SPCA.
"We are grateful to be partnering with Macy's again this year" said Jason Walthall, SF SPCA Co-President. "Holiday Windows provides us with a unique opportunity to help animals in need. The event not only helps homeless animals find new families, but it also raises awareness about important animal welfare issues such as pet overpopulation and homelessness."
"Macy's Union Square is proud to continue the tradition of the iconic SPCA Holiday Windows", said District Vice President, Lori Randolph. "The windows have become a symbol of the holidays here in San Francisco. They help us spread the generosity and spirit of the holiday season by finding loving homes for animals in need and bringing joy to the families that adopt them."
The SF SPCA needs volunteers to help spread the holiday cheer at Windows by greeting the public, collecting donations, and directing visitors to the SF SPCA pop-up adoption center inside Macy's. The 2-hour shifts do not require special training. Groups are welcome, and children are invited to volunteer alongside their parents. For details or to sign up, visit sfspca.org/holiday-volunteer or call 415-554-3008.
Each holiday window will be equipped with a video camera that streams images to sfspca.org/holiday, so you can watch the kittens and puppies from your computer. The streaming video is generously supported by KSFO Radio.
On December 14, National Believe Day, Macy's will be matching all donations collected outside the Holiday Windows, up to $1,000.
On December 1, Family Fun Day, Macy's will host a holiday cookie decorating workshop for kids from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kids Department, Level 5. Kids will decorate animal-shaped cookies that they can take home and enjoy. Radio Disney will also be at the event with a DJ, games, holiday decorating station, and giveaways.
For those who can't make it to Macy’s, the SF SPCA will be waiving the adoption fee on adult animals adopted from the permanent SF SPCA Adoption Center at 250 Florida Street, November 16 - January 1.
