Kirby Lester CEO Garry Zage Named ‘Alumnus of the Year’ by the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy

Garry Zage, president and CEO of Kirby Lester, LLC, the world's leading pharmacy automation provider, has been named the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy's 2012 Alumnus of the Year. The award is the highest honor given to an alumnus; it recognizes an Illinois College of Pharmacy graduate who stands as an innovator, exhibits leadership, and has contributed significantly to the pharmacy profession.

Kirby Lester, LLC, the leading pharmacy automation provider, today announced that its President and CEO Garry Zage, R.Ph., was named the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy’s 2012 Alumnus of the Year. The award is the highest honor given to an alumnus; it recognizes an Illinois College of Pharmacy graduate who stands as an innovator, exhibits leadership, and has contributed significantly to the pharmacy profession.

Zage is a 1977 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. He has more than 35 years of experience in the pharmacy industry, including more than 15 years focused on pharmacy automation. Zage is the only CEO of a pharmacy automation company who is also a pharmacist.

“Garry embodies what we are trying to produce in our educational programs at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy,” says Jerry Bauman, Pharm.D., Dean of the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. “The Alumnus of the Year award stands above – as an innovator, a leader and a significant contributor to pharmacy. It’s our highest honor. Garry certainly exemplifies these qualities. His current work enables pharmacists to spend more time with patients, which is crucial as the profession embraces the professional role of the pharmacist. In addition, Garry has provided strong leadership throughout his distinguished career in a wide variety of areas – from the pharmaceutical industry to community practice to hospital practice.”

Zage purchased Kirby Lester in 2005. Over the next seven years, he guided the venerable company through an impressive transformation.
