SWS’s State of the Art ASIC Enables Tronics’ Gyroscope

High Performance Electronics Allow Gyroscope to Achieve Market Leading Performance

Si-Ware Systems (SWS), a premier provider of IC- and MEMS-based solutions for industrial and consumer applications, has developed and is supplying the high performance conditioning ASIC for Tronics’ new GYPRO2300 gyroscope.

The SWS conditioning ASIC along with Tronics’ MEMS element produces a gyroscope that has best in class performance when compared with other gyroscopes in the market today. The GYRPO2300 has a bias instability (Allen variance) of 1 degree per hour, an ultra-low noise density of 10°/h/Sqrt(Hz), and an excellent thermal bias stability of +/- 0.05 degrees per second.

SWS supported Tronics in the characterization of its MEMS gyroscope, which was enabled through SWS’s MEMS development platforms. SWS also worked closely with Tronics on the integration and industrializiation of the gyroscope module. SWS has extensive background and expertise in developing interface ASICs for MEMS devices – resonators, inertial sensors, and optical components. The development platforms that SWS has used over the years allow for a better understanding of a MEMS device and its behaviour with interface electronics, which allows for a conditioning ASIC to be developed much more efficiently.

Earlier this year SWS launched its SWS61111 Inertial Sensor Development Platform, which allows companies themselves the ability to characterize their MEMS sensors at an early stage. The SWS61111 utilizes SWS’s high performance inertial sensor interface ASIC, the SWS1110. The SWS1110 is a highly configurable ASIC that can be interfaced with accelerometers and gyroscopes in open- and closed-loop (force-feedback) operation.

“SWS continues to prove that it is the leader in ASIC development for MEMS devices,” said Hisham Haddara, Ph.D, CEO at SWS. “The electronics for Tronics’ gyroscope is just another example of the world class solutions that SWS delivers to its customers.”

SWS at Electronica

SWS will be showcasing its solutions for MEMS devices at the Electronica 2012 Trade Fair in Munich Germany November 13th through 16th. SWS has its booth in Hall A2, stand number 116.
