National leader has provided 25% of all commercial USGBC® Certified LEED® projects with renewable energy

“It has been our tremendous honor to be such an integral part of the LEED Green Power Credit program. The combined environmental impact made by our clients is truly staggering; kudos to them!" John Powers, VP of Business Development at Renewable Choice.

Colorado-based Renewable Choice Energy ( announced today that the firm has supplied more than 3,500 green building projects—25 percent of all U.S. LEED Certified commercial buildings—with Green-e® Energy Certified renewable energy credits (RECs), more than any other green power provider in the world.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1998 and to date, has certified more than 14,000 commercial building projects globally. The building standard awards points to green construction projects that result in LEED certification. Under current USBGC guidelines, a project can receive points under the Energy & Atmosphere Green Power Credit for the purchase of RECs that are Green-e® Energy Certified and meet a minimum of the building’s electricity usage for two years.

“We’ve worked with Renewable Choice on dozens of LEED projects for green power,” said Barry Giles, Founder and CEO of BuildingWise, LLC. “They are always knowledgeable and responsive to our needs while offering the best green power value in the market. We particularly appreciated their staff coming to our office and holding a lunch-and-learn to educate our team on the Green Power Credit.”

The Green Power Credit allows projects to support renewable energy development by choosing RECs, offering affordable points toward LEED certification that significantly reduce a project’s environmental impact. Projects pursuing LEED certification can earn as many as seven LEED points by purchasing green power to offset a building’s energy use.

Since 2003, Renewable Choice has been a member of the USGBC and has been supplying green power to building projects around the world. Renewable Choice also boasts four LEED Accredited Professionals on staff.

“It has been our tremendous honor to be such an integral part of the LEED Green Power Credit program,” said John Powers, Vice President of Business Development at Renewable Choice. “The combined environmental impact made by our clients is truly staggering; kudos to them!”

Renewable Choice will be in attendance at this year’s USGBC Greenbuild conference in San Francisco, November 14-16, 2012. Attendees are invited to visit the Renewable Choice booth.
