StackMob Drops Traditional Industry ‘Per Transaction’ Pricing; First PaaS Provider to Offer Mobile Developers Free API Calls

Leading cloud-based mobile platform lets developers more easily add functionality to their apps with launch of the StackMob Marketplace, a new ‘app store-like’ marketplace for developer-ready API modules.

StackMob provides a cloud-based platform to developers to help them get to market faster.

At Atari, we take branding of our applications seriously,” said Giancarlo Mori, EVP of Product Development of Atari. “Using StackMob means we can focus on innovation and user experience while being confident that our apps run reliably.

StackMob, a leading cloud-based mobile platform provider, today announced its new, industry-first pricing model that charges developers only for the features they use – and nothing else. Under its new pricing structure, StackMob is eliminating traditional ‘per transaction’ or user fees that require developers to pay for services based on the number of API calls their users make. A cloud-based mobile development platform provider, StackMob is shifting its pricing to focus on value-added services and will only charge developers for premium functionality such as running complex custom code on the platform’s servers or extending an app’s features with third-party integrations. With this change, StackMob gives developers a market-leading mobile development platform that won’t penalize them as their apps gain traction and their API calls significantly increase.

“For mobile developers and enterprises considering app development using cloud computing architectures, cost-efficiency is often touted as a major benefit, but IaaS, PaaS and BaaS providers need to carefully consider the best way to structure their pricing so customers truly realize value from their services,” said Ty Amell, CEO of StackMob. “API transactions are now a commodity, and developers are becoming more dissatisfied with these kinds of transaction-based fees. They don’t want to face a ‘success tax’ when their apps take off. With our new pricing, StackMob is leading the way in making cloud services a more viable approach for mobile app development.”

Introducing the StackMob Marketplace

StackMob also announced today the StackMob Marketplace, a new online store featuring developer-ready API modules from StackMob and its technology partners.

With an expected 10 billion mobile Internet devices to be used globally by 2016, and the market for cloud-based mobile apps expected to increase by nearly 90%, the mobile development landscape is quickly becoming more competitive than ever before. To speed up their development cycles and deliver full-featured apps right from initial release, mobile developers need a flexible, robust mobile development platform combined with a broad marketplace of cost-efficient third-party solutions they can easily leverage.

“While the smart phones in the market today have reached an exciting threshold of power, mobile app developers are just starting to take full advantage of these device’s capabilities. We are on the verge of a whole new class of apps that truly can be defined as 'smart apps' - apps that learn about their users and environments over time and as a result can intelligently adapt to become more useful," said Amell. "Building futuristic apps at the rate and complexity that consumers demand is going to require developers to quickly and easily leverage best-in-class solutions from many different technology providers. On their own, they simply can't build needed features fast enough. We created the StackMob Marketplace to fill this gap and made the integration process seamless through our platform. ”

The StackMob Marketplace lets developers easily install, integrate and grow their mobile applications with functionality from trusted third-party providers including: Apsalar, Crittercism, datownia, iGeolise, inneractive,,, PubNub, SendGrid, Tap for Tap, Urban Airship, and UserVoice.

Carefully tested and approved by the StackMob engineering team, every API module available in the marketplace can be integrated easily into StackMob in similar way to how consumers buy apps from an app store. Featuring modules for a broad set of technologies such as analytics, API integration, advertising, commerce, device management, customer support, gaming and enterprise management, the StackMob Marketplace helps developers get to market faster with fewer development resources.

With the marketplace seamlessly integrated right into the platform’s dashboard, developers simply select which API modules they would like to add to their application and can then access them from the StackMob environment. StackMob coordinates billing and provides the developer with a single consolidated invoice without any premium charges added on top of the cost of the modules selected.

“At Atari, we take branding of our applications seriously,” said Giancarlo Mori, EVP of Product Development of Atari. “Using StackMob means we can focus on innovation and user experience while being confident that our apps run reliably.”

Pricing and Availability

The StackMob platform is now available without per-transaction fees and includes access to the core StackMob platform. StackMob and third-party API modules are priced separately and available through the StackMob Marketplace. For more information about StackMob’s pricing, please visit:
