Divide Nine releases its “no-regrets” messaging app to Google Play’s Android marketplace this week, following its success on iPhone. Android users for the first time can now send 5-second self-destructing video messages to anyone with a smartphone or tablet.
The app, functioning like a video walkie-talkie, makes züm one of a kind. The videos, or züms, immediately self-destruct on both ends after a single viewing in a Mission Impossible style. As a result, users can communicate in an addictive back and forth fashion, with the average user sending 10 züms per day on the iPhone alone.
The app’s success, however, is also a result of a widespread lifestyle movement. Most notably züm is creating a stir in young Hollywood, permeating the demographic with its casual visual immediacy. The app succeeds in allowing users to generate content that can be as memorable as they want it to be—but always fleeting.
Ariana Basseri, co-creator of züm and Community Manager said, “We’re excited for everyone to finally experience züm on Android. We know iPhone users have lots of friends on Android and from here, the züm movement can only continue to grow around the world.”
züm (zum) is available for free in the iTunes App Store, as well as for the Android in the Google Play Store this week.
