All are invited! The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas today extended an invitation for all Dallas-area schools to attend the “Mascot Trot” live on Good Morning Texas, November 21, 2012. The Dallas Turkey Trot’s lovable mascot, “Tommy the Turkey,” along with “Rowdy” from the Dallas Cowboys, “Champ” from the Dallas Mavericks, and “Ranger Captain” from the Texas Rangers will compete for turkey-gold and bragging rights at the 45th annual Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.

All area high schools with their cheer squads and mascots are invited to join the fun at 8:30am on Victory Plaza on November 21 and cheer on the professional mascot of their choice (we’re rooting for Tommy!) And don’t miss the conversation online on Twitter and Facebook!

Attendees are invited to show school spirit on TV and get VIP Tent Access Passes to gain entrance into the hottest spot at this year's Turkey Trot. Named by Time Magazine as one of the “Top 5 Fun Runs to Try Now,” the Official Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot attracted nearly 40,000 participants to last year’s event, all while achieving the Guinness Book of World Record’s recognition as the most people dressed as turkeys in one location. This year is expected to be the biggest event yet in Turkey Trot history!

Every year, the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot reaches millions in the North Texas area and beyond. Proceeds from the Trot help provide funding for programs vital to the Dallas community, such as: childhood obesity; LIVESTRONG Cancer Recovery at the YMCA, diabetes prevention, an Urban Swim program that teaches children live-saving water skills, youth obesity programs aimed at encouraging family wellness through fitness and nutrition and teen programs that educate North Texas area teens on valuable leadership skills.

The Trot event includes a certified 5K, and a unique 8 mile race distance course. Again this year there is the option for all participants to be chip timed in both the 5k and 8 mile race with a $5 timing charge. Also with their race registration, participants will receive a complimentary 25 visit membership to begin Training for the Trot at a Dallas area YMCA.
