The Brave Beauty Series bridges the sparsely populated bookshelf between early chapter books and young adult fiction.

Journalist-turned-storyteller Marion Dawson Gunderson has crafted a series of books for tweens who are ready to move on from Junie B. Jones to longer chapter books. Parents wary of witches, vampires and teen warriors will welcome these tales of historic figures who triumph over evil without using wizardry or crossbows.

Gunderson’s first two entries in the Brave Beauty Series, “Jewel of Canaan: A Story Adapted from the Book of Judges” and “Star of Persia: A Story Adapted from the Book of Esther” (both published by WestBow), are adaptations of Scripture that bring Hebrew prophetess Deborah and reluctant beauty queen Esther to life through realistic depictions of rampant evil, sweet family times, the onset of romantic love and raw courage grounded in unshakeable faith.

The Brave Beauty Series bridges the sparsely populated bookshelf between early chapter books and young adult fiction. Gunderson’s engaging and compact writing style is spot-on for this group. Lively dialogue and varied sentence structure add to the series’ appeal.

More than eight million adolescents have been identified as “struggling readers” according to the National Governors Association's Center for Best Practices. Gunderson’s new series offers parents and teachers a new reading tool that is age appropriate and exciting for this group.

To bring authenticity to her stories, Gunderson researched the flora, fauna and culture of ancient Canaan and Persia. To learn more, go to http://www.BraveBeautyBooks.com .
