87% of consumers research companies online prior to deciding if they will do business with them.

Online reputation is one of those factors that many businesses do not take into consideration. For this reason and to learn more about how consumers check the reputation of companies, McKremie created the 2012 Online Reputation Management Survey to give a glimpse into the new trend.
The online survey was conducted from October 25, 2012 through November 6, 2012. Respondents that took part in the survey were consumers over the age of 18 with the majority residing in the United States of America. Answers to several different questions were given which provided all the results and even more answers to companies that want to be found by potential customers or to build their clientele.
The survey also aids companies by providing an insight into the behavior of consumers and their usage of online reviews and the online reputation of companies they have used previously.
Results from the survey showed that over half of the individuals that participated in the survey, 57%, used Google search and checked at least three pages if not more in their quest to learn more about a company prior to using the company for any services.
Social media is growing even when it comes to learning more about the reputation of a company as shown by the survey. The number of individuals that used social media to research a company online came in at nearly half or 49%. The major social media websites used by consumers included Facebook, Google Plus, Linkedin, Twitter, and Pinterest.
"87% of consumers research companies online prior to deciding if they will do business with them. This can really hurt the bottom line of a business that suffers from negative reviews. Companies focus too much on getting potential customers to their website then neglect their overall online reputation." Stuart McHenry, President of McKremie.com
In today’s highly technological world where information is at consumers fingertips via the internet, online reputation is a very important factor that can and will help a business grow or bankrupt them. As shown on the survey, more people are becoming dependent on reading online reputations prior to hiring a company and companies are working on creating a positive reputation as well.
