“Despite the increasing role of the internet in car sales, buying a car is still a process that hinges around personal interaction. A dealership’s most valuable resource is still its employees, and I don’t see that changing any time soon."

On October 16, 2012, Dealers Resources, Inc., a leading supplier of aftermarket products, training, and development for automotive dealerships, held the first ever job fair strictly for automotive sales professionals. Predictions that fourth quarter of 2012 hiring numbers could return to pre-recession levels for the first time, led the Northville, Michigan, based company to recognize their dealers would need more than just training and development.

“The response from participating dealerships and attendees was fantastic,” said John Jameson, CEO of Dealers Resources, Inc. Jameson hosted a successful recruiting event, with 18 local auto dealer participants, in spite of Detroit’s American League Championship game against the Yankees. By focusing specifically on automotive sales positions, over 70, well-qualified, job candidates attended the event. Jameson said the idea of holding an automotive sales specific job fair came from his company’s relationship with dealers. “One of the most common questions we get is ‘where can I find applicants who want to sell automobiles?’ We did some research and found that this kind of thing had never been done before, but we felt strongly that the opportunity to match job seekers with dealerships hungry for talent merited the risk.”

“The entire event greatly exceeded expectations,” said Mike Komander of LaFontaine Auto Group, who walked away with six applications qualified for full time positions in his dealership.
