InterDev, a leading Atlanta-area provider of information technology and security services, today announced renewal of its contract with the City of Sandy Springs to provide all services related to information technology - network/computing and GIS systems. InterDev first secured the contract in 2011 during the city’s competitive bid for service providers (RFP 12‐035IS2, Information Services). InterDev has acquired a reputation as a leading information technology resource in public-private partnerships (PPP) with municipalities, state agencies and public safety departments throughout Georgia.
“Government entities are increasingly turning to the private sector to extend their services to citizens while controlling costs,” said InterDev CEO Gary Nichols. “With Sandy Springs, in particular, InterDev has been able to help the city adopt state-of-the-art technologies and better protect and secure its technology infrastructure and other vital resources. We are delighted to continue our involvement with Sandy Springs.”
Statistics indicate that cities operating under a PPP model can enjoy dramatic savings (nearly 30%, according to a recent study by the Georgia Institute of Technology) without any reduction in quality and quantity of services, and in many cases, with more innovation and better service delivery.
The City of Sandy Springs became a model for this approach after its incorporation in 2005, when the newly created city outsourced nearly all non-public-safety services, initially to a single provider. After the city reported saving nearly $20 million in the first five years, city leadership determined that further savings and advancements could be achieved by inviting specialty firms to bid on outsourcing contracts for individual categories of service.
In renewing the InterDev contract, Sandy Springs leadership cited a number of improvements including integrating the city’s existing infrastructure with investments in new technology providing a positive impact across the organization from traffic control to public safety.
Specific services InterDev provides under its contract include configuring, managing, monitoring and maintaining all IT hardware, software and ERP systems. InterDev also oversees administration of the city's electronic mail servers to comply with state and federal archival requirements, administration of the City's VoIP system, and development and administration of state-of-the-art security protocols and platforms.
