It’s wonderful to see our annual events grow each year to support our efforts in improving the lives of members of our community.
Charleston, WV (PRWEB) November 14, 2012
Remember The Miners is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Bob Huggins Tailgate Presented by Little General. The tailgate will be held December 4th at the Moose Lodge in Charleston, WV, beginning at 7 PM.
To purchase tickets, contact Cam Payne at cam(at)remembertheminers(dot)org.
The 1st Annual Bob Huggins Tailgate was held January 17th this year. The inaugural event benefited the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund, named in honor of WVU Coach Bob Huggins’ late mother, Norma Mae, as well as the Remember The Miners Scholars Program. Coach Huggins serves as Honorary Chairman to Remember The Miners, and has long been a supporter of the hard work of the men and women of the coal mining industry.
The Remember The Miners Scholars Program was created in 2011 to provide financial aid to miners, dependents of miners, and students pursuing higher education in the mining industry. Scholarships are awarded twice annually during spring and fall semesters. In its first year, the Scholars Program awarded $50,000. Applications to the Fall 2012 Scholars Program are open now and can be found here.
The 2nd Annual Bob Huggins Tailgate Presented by Little General will also serve as a canned food and toy drive for the Southern West Virginia Christmas Outreach Program. Guests are encouraged to bring items to donate in addition to partaking in the festivities of the evening.
“The 2nd annual tailgate will be a great time to celebrate the miners of West Virginia and raise funds for two causes very important to me,” began Coach Huggins. “It’s wonderful to see our annual events grow each year to support our efforts in improving the lives of members of our community.”
Coach Huggins has been an integral part of fundraising with Remember The Miners. In 2010, the Bob Huggins Fish Fry was held at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown, and the 2nd Annual Bob Huggins Fish Fry was held this year on August 31st. Like the Bob Huggins Tailgate, the Fish Fry raised funds and brought awareness to miners through the appearance of VIPs like Randy Moss and NBA players. This year’s tailgate will be held the night before the highly spirited game of WVU-Marshall, and will feature a concert performance from local musical talent.
“The 2nd Annual Bob Huggins Tailgate will be a night to celebrate all that’s wonderful about West Virginia,” added Jason Parsons, President of Remember The Miners. “We encourage everyone to come join us the night of December 4th to raise funds for both of these important causes while enjoying a wonderful evening with some of the state’s most notable supporters.”
This event is sure to sell out. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Contact Cam Payne, VP of Operations, at cam(at)remembertheminers(dot)org for more information.
