To enter, participants simply submitted an artistic expression inspired by water and colors. These creations included photos of rain barrels, painted water bottles or watering cans. Anything that captured the spirit of WaterColors, including photos of a creative way a particular garden was planted, drawings of rivers, poems or stories about water. Frank Wood, executive sponsor of Plow & Hearth’s sustainability committee says, “We received entries from all over the United States, we are pleased with the contest results and look forward to continuing our efforts by raising awareness.”
The WaterColors contest closed to further entries as of September 30, 2012 and Plow & Hearth received some amazing submissions. Contestants shared wonderful images of their beautiful, water-inspired creations. Choosing the three finalists that showed superior aesthetic impact, incorporation of color and water and originality was challenging for the special committee.
The top three out of twenty-one submissions placed on Plow & Hearth’s Facebook page so that fans could vote for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner. The voting process ended on 10/19 and the WINNERS are:

$5,000 contribution to American Rivers on behalf of Plow & Hearth and the winner.
$1,000 Plow & Hearth Gift Certificate
- Second Place Winner - Dale F
$3,000 contribution to American Rivers on behalf of Plow & Hearth and the winner.

- Third Place Winner - Elaine D
$2,000 contribution to American Rivers on behalf of Plow & Hearth and the winner.
$250 Plow & Hearth Gift Certificate
Congratulation to these artists for participating in the WaterColors contest, their creative and unique creations have helped raised awareness and support for American Rivers.
Plow & Hearth committed to donating $10,000 to American Rivers and additional $1 for every vote received, which totaled 15,000.
