Vice President of Embedded Systems Research to Discuss Security Threats as the Side Effect of the Internet of Things

VDC Research (VDC), a leading market intelligence firm that provides engineering leaders and vendors with research-driven insights to help guide their product development and technology strategies, today announced that Christopher Rommel, Vice President of Embedded Systems Research, has been selected to give a keynote presentation at the Amphion Forum in San Francisco on December 5, 2012. Rommel will offer his insight on the role design planning and solution selection play when planning for optimal security risk mitigation.

While sharing results from a recent VDC survey of engineering leaders, Rommel will lend his expertise to assist embedded device engineers and solution providers in understanding the importance of analyzing their existing environment to improve security at all stages of the device lifecycle. Immediately following his keynote presentation, Rommel will chair a panel, “Navigating the Internet of Things: Securing Profits by Protecting Devices” with executives from leading security solution providers.

“Embedded engineers’ focus on security and scalable data management should include plans for a reliable and secure Internet of Things,” said Chris Rommel, VDC’s embedded systems practice leader. “Today there are billions of devices attached to the Internet that can become security threats. Not only do computers and mobile devices become security risks, but also TV’s, medical devices, smart meters, lights and environmental control systems. Our goal is to provide a framework that engineers, product managers and executives can use as they sort out the risk and upside involved in designing secure intelligent devices. ”
