Quorn Foods, Inc. Lauds Oregon School District for Offering Daily Vegetarian Meals and Offers Their Own Vegetarian Recipes to Help Out

In response to a Portland, OR School offering a daily vegetarian option, Quorn offers a response.

On November 15, Quorn Foods, Inc. releases a statement in response to a report published by Oregon Live which states that the Centennial School District of Portland, Oregon will now be offering their students a healthy, vegetarian option each day.

According to the article published on Oregon Live, The Centennial School District decided to redevelop their school lunch program in response to new federal guidelines mandating healthier school lunches. However, the article explains that where the school truly excels is that they are not only meeting the letter of the guidelines, but going the extra mile by giving each student the choice to have a vegetarian meal.

“This isn't about just serving (peanut butter and jelly) or cheese sandwiches and calling it vegetarian,” said Julie Mack, who oversees the program.

The article reports that the school is working hard to make sure that the meals aren’t just healthy, but that they also taste great as well, demonstrating to a new generation of students that just because something is healthy doesn’t mean it has to taste bad.

“We all know many people who have tried to make kids eat healthier, but failed because they didn’t like the taste,” said David Wilson, Quorn representative. “That’s why initiatives like the one in Portland are so important. Good habits are best learned when they’re young, so it’s critically important to expose kids to healthy food choices before their bad habits are set in stone. We laud The Centennial School District because we know how difficult it can be to convince kids to try something new.
