Yumi Media Comments on a Recent Article Regarding the Growth of ‘Vegepreneurs’ in the Business World

Following an article about the rise of vegetarian and vegan businesses in the U.S., Yumi Media offered comments on the recent news.

On November 19, 2012, Yumi media offered comments on a recent article by Kate Weber of One Green Planet regarding the increase of vegetarian and vegan businesses in the United States.

According to the One Green Planet article, “Vegetarian and vegan businesses are gaining momentum, going beyond restaurants and food products and growing a community of business owners who are doing more than protecting animals.” The article dubbed the new businesses as “vegepreneurs,” a name given to them by Bloomberg Businessweek. The article mentioned that vegepreneurs are not just only selling food products anymore, but getting into other businesses as well, such as vegan shoe shops for example.

The article states that vegepreneurs are given more business options thanks to the higher demand for vegetarian products. According to the article, “The surprising element of vegepreneurs is their spirit of cooperation, which is not often seen among small business owners who often struggle to profit and face fierce competition.”

Yumi Media stressed the importance of having more of a variety of vegetarian products, despite any complaints they conjure. “It is nice to see vegetarian businesses opening that are not just food related. It really shows how the vegetarian lifestyle is expanding,” says Yumi Media representative, Eileen McGovern. “Some people may complain that vegetarian alternatives taste ‘fake’ or just are not the same, so I recommend Quorn’s meat alternatives since they replicate the taste and texture of meat and have never heard a Quorn complaint.”
