Hamstreet Surgery in Ashford, Kent has reported on the success of its BigHand Digital Dictation solution, which has shortened document turnaround times, improved transcription accuracy and improved efficiency in the practice.
The BigHand solution was deployed to replace the surgery’s older analogue tape-based system to overcome limitations such as variable recording quality, delays being introduced while searching tapes for urgent correspondence, and tapes being damaged or mislaid.
The practice’s seven authors and four secretaries now benefit from improved clarity and quality of voice recordings, which improves accuracy. Secretaries can also easily assess the priority level of the correspondence waiting for them, and the length of the dictation, enabling them to better manage their daily workflow. Work sharing during staff holidays or absences is also made easier as recordings are easily accessible to other secretaries, with dictation workflows being fully customisable.
Penny Maitland, Practice Manager at Hamstreet Surgery said:
“It’s not an exaggeration to say that digital dictation has changed our secretaries’ lives. The biggest benefit of BigHand’s solution is its ease of use: secretaries can see if a letter is urgently required so it can be printed for a patient to take away with them, and they can view the length of letters waiting to be transcribed, to help them organise their workload. Also, the improved speech quality, and not having to locate and handle tapes really helps to speed up producing documents. The solution has really helped us to improve efficiency and give a better service to patients.”
