Lightspeed Systems is pleased to announce a new partnership with the NROC project to deliver full courses and media-rich learning objects on its social learning platform, My Big Campus. The NROC project focuses on new models of digital content development, delivery, and use, and My Big Campus is excited to offer these high-quality digital media resources to its users. For a limited time, educators and students using My Big Campus will have free access to NROC’s media-rich course resources.
A non-profit effort to provide all students with high quality educational resources, the NROC project offers a variety of courses and content, correlated to state and national standards, designed to bring the power of multimedia to today’s curriculum. NROC content can be used with or without a textbook to enhance online, blended, and face-to-face learning environments—which makes it a perfect fit for My Big Campus. Developed by Lightspeed Systems as a collaborative Learning Management System (LMS), My Big Campus allows educators and students to bring together resources, such as those provided by NROC, to support engaging learning experiences.
“My Big Campus offers teachers and students a unique opportunity to rethink the way they approach teaching and learning. We look forward to learning more about the potential impact of multimedia resources within this type of collaborative, networked environment.” Dani Pedrotti, NROC Member Development Director.
Under normal circumstances, institutional use of these learning resources is available only to sustaining members of the NROC Network. However, for a limited time My Big Campus is pleased to offer NROC content integration free of charge to all users. Until January 31, 2013, teachers and learners on My Big Campus will have free, unlimited access to the media-rich content provided by NROC. After that date, users can contact NROC regarding membership privileges—and continue leveraging these resources within the My Big Campus platform.
All NROC learning objects are made available in two ways: individually in the My Big Campus libraryto mash up with other resources; and as collections in Course Bundles available in the Bundle Exchange. Bundles are self-contained online lessons, modules, or even textbook replacements that may be aligned with state and Common Core standards to create engaging lessons and promote collaborative learning. Users can search by topic or subject, or simply browse through all resources.
Libby Lawrie, My Big Campus Senior Coach, is excited about this opportunity for schools. “NROC content is relevant and rigorous with engaging content that is aligned to the State and National Standards,” she shares. We all know that today’s students learn differently and need an interactive approach to learning. With NROC’s high-quality lessons integrated on the My Big Campus platform, teachers find it very easy to tailor the learning to each individual student.”
A highlight of the NROC Library is the exciting new grant-funded program: Algebra 1—An Open Course. Additional resources include both AP courses and adaptable course foundations to prepare students for college and beyond in subjects like Arithmetic, Algebra, Statistics, Calculus, Biology, Environmental Science, Physics, US Government, US History, and more. Each course employs video, animation, graphics, text, and audio with an emphasis on interactivity.
The partnership between My Big Campus and the NROC project creates new value for educators and their students. The dynamic, media-rich NROC content is supported with collaborative tools in a free LMS where questions may be posed, discussions ensued, and supplementary activities assigned. The complete NROC courses support schools’ need to provide both blended learning solutions and virtual online courses.
My Big Campus continues to combine the functionality of a classroom LMS with a social networking site and library of educational resources—offering a complete classroom management and teaching tool for educators and a mobile, blended learning solution for students.
