Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) November 16, 2012
Scott Starr, of the Indiana law firm of Starr, Austen & Miller, LLP, announced that the firm is investigating potential products liability claims related to the recall of Haier American 42-inch LED televisions.
Haier American Trading Company is the American import arm of the giant Chinese based Haier Group that produces and exports a wide range of home appliances and electronics, ranging from dishwashers to televisions. The recall at issue here specifically relates to Haier 42-inch LED televisions with the model number LE42B1380, which were distributed nationwide through both chain retail stores, most prominently Fry’s Electronics, as well as online through Amazon.com and other online retailers. These televisions were sold from September 2011 through March 2012. (Source: http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20121003/BLOGS23/121009886)
The defect that initiated the recall centers on the television stand that accompanied the 42-inch television. Normal use of the television stand has been shown to possibly result in the breaking of the stand neck thereby collapsing the 42-inch unit. Due to the potential for consumer injury resulting from this potential collapse the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission has recalled the unit and advised all consumers who still have it in use to immediately remove the television from the stand. Consumers are advised to return the defective stand for a replacement from Haier American. Please note that consumers who are presently using the wall mount option for the television are not impacted by the recall but they should also return their defective stands in case they ever intend to use the television in conjunction with the stand at a future date. Starr, a partner in the firm, states: “Recalls involving everyday items such as this one present a particularly large danger to the consumer. A television stand is such an ordinary item that families never anticipate injury coming from it. However, if injuries result from such a product, whether due to a manufacturing flaw or a design defect, producers and distributors should be held accountable for resulting damages.”
At this time no incidents of injury related to the Haier television stand have been reported. However, the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission is still monitoring the situation and reviewing consumer reports. (Source: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml13/13002.html)
