Calgary Car Dealer Announces The Winner Of Its “Live In It To Win It” Contest

GSL Chev City has become well-known in the city of Calgary for finding ways to make great vehicles available to their clientele, but this autumn season they have taken things a step further and, in partnership with C-Jay 92, have organized a contest in which five contestants must live in a GMC Sierra in order to win it.

GSL Chev City's "Live In It To Win It" Contest

The truck was finally won by a contestant named Derek after the other last-man-standing had to default, claiming he needed to pay attention to his studies and get back to his life.

It’s become a matter of routine in North American culture for local auto dealerships to come up with contests and special events to promote new vehicles and to showcase their businesses, but very rarely has a contest arrived with quite the same level of ingenuity and hype that has accompanied GSL Chev City’s “Live In It To Win It” competition, which kicked off earlier this week.

Those who have made Calgary their home have grown accustomed to noticing this Calgary car dealership along Bow Trail. This is a business that has been around for over a hundred years, and is recognizable staple in the downtown area. Clients of GSL Chev City have recognized the dealership’s talent for doing it all, whether it is providing excellent customer service, always having a plethora of new and used inventory available in the showroom. That’s why it’s no surprise that from this same company comes an innovative contest that has had many Calgarians talking over these past few weeks.

The contest, called “Live In It To Win It” has a fairly simple, but also compelling, premise. Five contestants are made to live out of the vehicle they are trying to win (in this case a 2012 GMC Sierra, which, incidentally, is quite roomy). The last one standing is the one that gets the vehicle. It sounds easy enough, but it becomes more and more challenging as the hours pass.

The process began with casting calls staged by CJ92 at venues throughout Calgary. Likely and willing candidates were culled from a wide variety of entrants, until there were a handful of semi-finalists left. Because of the public nature of the competition, everyone involved wanted to ensure that those chosen would be up to the task, and would be agreeable and entertaining throughout the duration of the event.

Once the final five were selected, a live feed was established on the GSL Chev City's Facebook page, which showed the competitors as they waited each other out over what turned into over one hundred hours. This made for many entertaining moments, as the affair was moderated skilfully and with humor by the CJ92 DJs.

The truck was finally won by a contestant named Derek after the other last-man-standing had to default, claiming he needed to pay attention to his studies and get back to his life. It’s understandable as he had been in the truck for well over a hundred hours at that point. The eventual winner, Derek, could not have been more thrilled. Having just been woken up from a nap at the time of the competition's end, he was at a loss for words but managed to convey that the truck would be hugely meaningful, and thanked the contest promoters for giving him the opportunity to win it.
