The 22 year old Swift also performed at the circus themed awards ceremony held at the Festhalle Frankfurt. She performed her song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” while wearing a stylish circus announcer's coat and miniskirt ensemble. This was the first time she attended the MTV EMAs, and the first time she was nominated as well.

About her awards, Swift tweeted, “Such an insane night!!! You guys won me 3 EMAs! Best female, best live act, best look. Can’t even begin to thank you enough. I love you!!”

Justin Bieber also won three awards, the best male act, pop act and won the world stage award. However, he was not able to attend the awards ceremony but had a recorded message for his fans. Other winners included British boy band, One Direction won best new act. Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen won the best song award. She also performed her number one hit, “Call Me, Maybe” during the show. Another winner and performer was South Korean pop star Psy for the world wide hit, “Gangnam Style” which won the best video prize. Lana del Rey won the best alternative act award.

Other winners were Linkin Park for best rock performer, Nicki Minaj for best hip hop performer, and David Guetta for best electronic performer.
