The Project for Natural Health Choices Inc. advocates drinking black tea to lower risk of developing diabetes according to the results of new research that was conducted by Data Mining International and published two weeks ago in the British Medical Journal. The findings suggest that consumption of black tea can reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
Researcher Ariel Beresniak and his colleagues explained in their report that because rates of type 2 diabetes are lower in nations where drinking black tea is popular, they chose to investigate if they could correlate the two. Additionally, they looked for a relationship for other diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular illnesses.
The study examined statistics in 50 different countries. The statistical analysis revealed that a high rate of black tea consumption was linked to a lower rate of diabetes. However, no links were observed with other diseases.
While no cause-and-effect relationship was proven in this study the researchers believe that the lower diabetes rates are a result of complex flavenoids present in black tea that are released when brewed. The full page study article can be found at http://www.bmjopen.bmj.com/content/2/6/e000648.
