PeopleAdmin, the leading provider of on-demand talent management solutions for higher education and government, today announced the availability of its latest e-book, “2012 Talent Management Trends in Higher Education.” The third annual report provides key insights on high level HR challenges including diversity, equity and inclusion maturity and the adoption of technologies to support all aspects of talent management.
The study is the only one of its kind for the higher education market and this year the response rate was higher than ever with more than 850 HR professionals participating.

It is broken down by employee and organization size so the reader can easily see where they fall and benchmark their own initiatives,” PeopleAdmin Vice President of Marketing Ellen Madonia said.

In this year’s survey, PeopleAdmin took a broader approach to understanding talent management challenges by first looking at the higher level human resource issues facing the higher education audience. These are the concerns driving priorities and determining talent management strategies.
Regardless of the organization’s size, when asked to rate the top HR challenges, planning for financial sustainability was at the top of the list.

“We believe this is primarily due to the mandate from the federal government to make education more affordable, requiring all aspects of the institution to find ways to be more efficient and reduce costs so tuition prices are stabilized,” Madonia said.

The aggregate responses reveal one of the key methods to gain efficiencies, for institutions of any size, is through making greater investments in technology. These types of investments range from student-facing technologies to a variety of internal tools utilized by faculty and staff. The investment in HR technology is high on the list of priorities and responses indicate the adoption of talent management technologies continues to rise.

There was an increase in adoption of staff and faculty recruiting systems, the use of position management systems, and the deployment of performance management systems. Larger organizations are leading the way with the adoption of talent management technologies and there was a 40 percent jump in satisfaction levels for those who have chosen to automate one or several HR processes.

When asked to rank top recruiting process challenges, integrating hiring data with other HR systems, delivering reports and metrics, improving hiring approval process, managing search committees and faculty hiring were the top five. In smaller organizations, selecting the most qualified candidates rose to the top.
