Lorna Kleidman, creator of the popular kettlebell exercise program KettleX, offered her support for the Norwich Fitness Club members who completed the Zombie Evacuation Race challenge and offers advice on training in preparation for charity runs.

On November 23, fitness instructor and three-time kettlebell champion Lorna Kleidman announces her support of the Norwich Fitness Club’s Charity run for cancer and offers advice on training. The Norwich Fitness Club ran the Zombie Evacuation run, which is a themed obstacle race, to support family members diagnosed with cancer.

According to the Norwich Evening News, The Norwich Fitness Club “went to Cambridge to complete the unique endurance experience for the cancer charity because a member of the group, Sue Hampson, had seen her brother, Paul Shepperd, 47, diagnosed with a brain [tumor].” The Norwich Fitness Club earned over $1900 for the cause reports the Norwich Evening News.

“Training for a charity is an uplifting experience,” comments Kleidman. “Though participants are running for charity rather than competition, there is still a level of preparation involved when competing in a run.”

The Norwich Evening News reported that the Zombie Evacuation course “had [Norwich Fitness Club members] running through different terrains with zombie characters jumping out and chasing them along the way.”

“Obstacle racing or marathon running takes a certain level of endurance to complete,” says Kleidman. “In training for such a race, a participant should make sure to drink plenty of water and remain hydrated during the race, even if the weather is cold.
Runners should make sure to eat a balance of complex carbs and protein before the race to ensure that they have adequate energy prior to the competition.”

“Being prepared is a fundamental practice in all performances whether it’s a kettlebell competition or race,” comments Kleidman. “No one needs to get hurt while running for a good cause.”

Lorna Kleidman is a Three-Time World Champion and World Record holder in kettlebell sport and the most decorated kettlebell athlete in the country. She developed the innovated methods used in KettleX as a way to bring the benefits of the bells to everyone in an easy to use, comprehensive and fun format. Lorna has been teaching individuals and group classes for the past six years.
