I want to share my personal story of loss as well as what I have learned from working as an attorney and counselor to help improve the dialogue of loss so that necessary support can be forthcoming.

Anapol Schwartz attorney Joel Feldman will give the keynote presentation during the Howard H. Steel Conference: Pediatric Spinal Cord Injuries and Dysfunction on November 29. He plans to discuss how to improve the dialogue of loss and methods of community outreach to prevent distracted driving injuries and deaths during the event at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

To combat the inadequate support that injured or grieving people often receive, Feldman’s presentation will specifically discuss grief and mourning, talking about loss, and the importance of providing helpful support in difficult situations.

“Often those who have suffered terrible losses such as spinal cord injury are hindered in their recovery by the lack of helpful support by professionals, friends and family members,” Feldman said. “I want to share my personal story of loss as well as what I have learned from working as an attorney and counselor to help improve the dialogue of loss so that necessary support can be forthcoming.”

Feldman will also talk about his End Distracted Driving campaign, a national program of trial lawyers reaching out to interact with high school students about the dangers of distractions while driving. Feldman believes that health care professionals need to join lawyers in the fight to protect young people in order to further promote distracted driving awareness.

Joel Feldman is a partner of Anapol Schwartz, where for 30 years he has represented families who have lost loved ones or suffered life-altering injuries. He will receive a master’s degree in counseling from Villanova University in May of 2013. He frequently writes and lectures about loss, personal injury damages and ways to improve dialogue about loss. He also speaks to teens and adults across the country about distracted driving.
