We operate similar to the GasBuddy model in that you just enter a zip code and get immediate price information delivered to your fingertips.

Finding the cheapest gas used to be a difficult task that involved driving around the neighborhood and wasting gas in the process. That is – until the GasBuddy app was released for Android, Blackberry and iOS. This free gas finder lists the closest and lowest-priced gas stations that are open.

Consumers have a similar conundrum when it comes to beer prices. For years, they would have to visit multiple stores to do a price comparison or simply pay whatever a retailer was charging. Now there is, a beer price database that has been optimized for both PCs and mobile phones. Users simply enter their zip codes to see a list of retailers with advertised beer prices in their area. Busy consumers can get maps to the nearest beer retailer and set alerts to let them know when their favorite beer brands go on sale.

“We operate similar to the GasBuddy model in that you just enter a zip code and get immediate price information delivered to your fingertips,” explains SaveOnBrew founder Mark Davidson. “However, what we learned from GasBuddy is that crowd-sourced information can have problems with accuracy -- it isn’t always perfect or timely.”

He adds, “We originally planned to use crowd-sourced data -- because it’s easy. But we’ve concluded that easier is not always better. We have over 9,000 beers in our database, whereas GasBuddy only deals with 4 SKU's: regular, unleaded, premium, and diesel. So, instead of asking for a crowd to help gather data, we work directly with more than 50,000 beer sellers nationwide to deliver the most accurate price information. Our site is updated all throughout the day – every day.”

In addition to the beer price database, SaveOnBrew also has a “Beer Blog” that lets readers know about new craft beers they may not have tried, the best ways to avoid a hangover, beer news and commentary. There is also a small store where beer drinkers can buy games, accessories, brew kits, and home bar equipment.
