Northridge Inn & Resort (http://www.northridgeinn.com), a full service four-season resort located on the shores of Lake Bernard in the beautiful Almaguin Highlands / Near North tourist region of central Ontario, reports a significant increase in the number of weddings booked at their resort by people from out of the country. Mike Piraino, co-owner of Northridge Inn, believes that the recent increase in international weddings could signal a trend in the resort wedding business and a new market that central and near-north Ontario resorts with wedding facilities should try to encourage.

According to Mike Piraino, this year Northridge Inn has enjoyed one of its busiest spring and summer seasons ever. He attributes the increase in business, in part, to international weddings that fill the resort with wedding guests who are attending from abroad. “Northridge has hosted a number of weddings in 2012 where the entire wedding party has travelled here from half way around the world. We have also hosted weddings at the resort where the couple lives in Canada, but their friends and family have travelled from overseas to join them in their celebration. This year alone, Northridge has welcomed wedding guests from Dubai, Singapore, the Philippines, England, Denmark, Germany and the United States. We have found that foreign wedding guests tend to stay at the resort longer, probably because they have come such a long way to get to Canada. We’ve also noticed that international wedding customers tend to spend more during their stay,” states Piraino.

Piraino is not surprised that more foreign couples are choosing central Ontario resorts for their destination wedding. “Our international guests frequently tell us that they are impressed with Canada’s wide open spaces, the changing seasons and the beauty of Ontario’s near north region. They associate our vast wilderness landscape with a sense of freedom, expansiveness and wonder. They are also very knowledgeable about the political climate here in Canada. We are known throughout the world as a peace loving, ethnically diverse nation that celebrates multiculturalism and the rights of the individual. People feel very safe and comfortable here. We are often told by couples that they chose an Ontario resort wedding, simply because Canada was their dream destination,” says Piraino.

“We truly enjoy helping couples arrange the wedding of their dream and hosting guests from around the world. With a smaller resort venue like the Northridge Inn, we can offer personalized service and coordinate all the wedding arrangements on site. This is particularly important when the bridal couple and their guests are from abroad. We see ourselves as Canadian goodwill ambassadors to these people who have travelled many miles to be here and we do our best to ensure that they experience the best Canada has to offer,” adds Piraino.
