The WTS initiative is a perfect avenue to help out area businesses, support the local economy, and still provide high-value trainings.
Bennington, Vermont (PRWEB) November 21, 2012
New Directions, a training and development firm in southern Vermont has partnered with area businesses, the Bennington Economic Development Task Force, the Workforce Investment Board and the Town of Bennington to offer convenient and affordable employee training to the Bennington area in a new program known as the Workforce Training Series (WTS). To encourage local organizations to get involved in this initiative and have their staff attend the training seminars for 2013, the WTS group will be having a free, 2-hour informational event to kickoff the initiative on Friday, December 7th at 10am at the Mount Anthony Country Club.
The Workforce Training Series is a response to the growing need for strategic staff development in order to position the Bennington area as a workforce engine for the future. With the collaboration among the Town of Bennington, local businesses and New Directions, WTS will bring state of the art training seminars to the local area for the 2013 year. New Directions, the initial provider of the training seminars, has been offering employee development courses for over 28 years and works with many organizations on a global scale including Coca-Cola, Delta Faucet, Sanofi Pasteur, Alcoa and the U.S. Navy. New Directions has also provided local on-site employee trainings in the past to Plasan, The Clark Art Museum, Bennington College, Bank of Bennington and Vermont Country Store.
The two hour kickoff event is an opportunity for business leaders to get a sneak peek at the WTS program and determine if it’s applicable for their organization in 2013. The demonstration will include an introduction and vision of the WTS program, as well as an hour demonstration of an employee training provided by New Directions. There will also be time to discuss cost for the program, sponsorship, hear from other local businesses, and network with one another.
“The series is underwritten by GVH Studio, Inc. of Bennington which really came about from GVH employees attending out of area seminars and finding other local Bennington businesses attending as well. GVH Studio’s president, Greg Van Houten, noticed that local businesses and organizations were traveling over an hour for these workshops, so there was clearly a demand for these types of seminars locally. Greg approached us knowing that New Directions was a great local resource that could put together a similar training series. It was a natural fit,” stated Matthew Harrington, New Directions’ Business Development Manager.
Harrington continued, “Likewise, New Directions has always wanted to try some sort of co-op system that brought more training to the Bennington area as we know investing in employee development is a key way to strengthen organizations and grow the economy. The WTS initiative is a perfect avenue to help out area businesses, support the local economy, and still provide high-value trainings. We want the participants to walk out of these day-long trainings transformed, ready to hit the ‘managerial’ ground running, helping their local organizations grow and be successful. The free kickoff event is a great way to showcase our training expertise and answer any questions local organizations might have.”
The Workforce Training Series kickoff event will be on Friday, December 7th from 10am to 12pm at the Mount Anthony Country Club. At that event, the WTS group will unveil the 4 employee development programs for the 2013 year. Coffee and water will be served and a raffle with prizes will also be part of the event. Attendees are encouraged to stay after, network with one another and support the locally-owned Country Club by having lunch.
