San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) November 19, 2012
Mayor Julián Castro and key information technology and energy sector business leaders from San Antonio, Texas have been invited to the United Kingdom to meet with select British politicians, senior government officials and UK business leaders to discuss opportunities for economic development between the countries. Denim Group, the leading secure software development company, has accepted its invitation to join in this important visit to the U.K. to discuss business collaboration opportunities. In addition to the Denim Group, CPS Energy (CPS) Chief Strategy and Technology Officer Cris Eugster, Rackspace (RAX) Chairman Graham Weston and Tesoro (TSO) Chairman Gregory Goff will also accompany the group.
“With over $441 billion invested in the United States, the United Kingdom is the largest foreign investor in the country, supporting over a million industrial jobs here. In addition, companies such as Boeing (BA,) Emerson Electric (EMR) and Monsanto (MON) do billions of dollars of business with the United Kingdom. On top of that, all of the world's top 10 universities and 26 of the top 30 are either in the United States or the United Kingdom,” said Mayor Castro. “The ideas and technologies that can shape the future and provide jobs in both countries may very well find their genesis in some of the collaborations that may be generated in these meetings.”
The business development government delegation will begin its visit on Sunday, November 18, 2012 and will attend a series of meetings with key U.K. government officials including Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, John Casson, Chief of Staff for the Prime Minister, Ed Llewellyn as well as be introduced to the Houses of Parliament at 10 Downing Street. Mayor Castro will also give a keynote lecture at the London School of Economics, one of the top 10
universities in the U.K., on “U.S. Leadership in the 21st Century.” Notably, students studying abroad from St. Mary’s University and Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas will be attending the event as well.
The delegation will also be meeting with Greg Barker, U.K. Minister for Energy and Climate Change, who recently visited San Antonio in May, 2012 when he headed up a Clean Energy delegation to the city. Rackspace will host an award ceremony while in the U.K. entitled “Boost Your Start-Up” in Tech City which is home to the high tech industry in London. The delegation event will conclude with a meeting with The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs William Hague, one of the key Cabinet positions in the UK Government. His counterpart in the US is Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary Clinton.
The business leader’s delegation will showcase the best opportunities for collaboration between San Antonio and the U.K. while participating in other focused events with leaders from some of the U.K.’s most important companies, as well as speak with important startups in the U.K.’s largest tech hub. Other high-profile British policy makers the group will be meeting with include Chancellor George Osborn; Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s British counterpart.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to travel with a group of San Antonio leaders who represent the global leaders in the IT and energy sector,” said Denim Group principal John Dickson. “I also am personally looking forward to meeting with the U.K.’s key cyber security policy leaders to more closely cooperate and exchange data so together, we can better protect industry from malicious attackers and nation state threats.”
