As Canada and India enter the next round of CEPA negotiations, trade and investment are now at a historic point as increasingly, the shared prosperity and growth of both countries is becoming intertwined.
However, thirty years ago when Thomas Bata, the Bank of Nova Scotia and Bombardier founded the Canada-India Business Council, trade and commercial relations between the two countries were minimal. Creating an organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening corporate and institutional relationships between Canada and India required a bold vision.
Celebrating Thirty Years of Leadership
Since that time, the Canada-India Business Council has consistently been at the forefront of cultivating the networks that support business and government institutions between the two countries and across multiple sectors.
This Thursday November 22nd, 2012 at the 30th Anniversary Diwali Gala, the Canada-India Business Council will join with over 500 senior leaders from industry, finance, government and media to celebrate its 30th Anniversary and to highlight shared goals for the years ahead. In recent years the Canada-India Business Council Annual Diwali Gala has emerged as the premier occasion for corporate leaders to mark the strengthening commercial ties.
The evening will feature:
Keynote Speaker: Mr. Mark Wiseman, President & CEO, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. The CPP Investment Board is one of the world’s most significant investors, with an active strategy in India.
Lifetime Achievement Recipient: Mr. Richard E. Waugh, President & CEO, Scotiabank, for his longstanding leadership in the Canada-India business corridor.
Chairman’s Tribute: The Hon. Roy MacLaren, PC
“The Canada India Business Council is the leading bilateral business organization committed to advancing the priorities of the Canada-India agenda.
Entirely member funded, with a dedicated full time team in both countries and operations in five cities in Canada and India, we represent over 130 of the leading companies across Canada and India who together account for over 70% of the bi-lateral trade and investment.
As the two countries move closer to free trade and its attendant opportunities, the Council is actively creating new ways to help our members reach their business goals. This includes the creation of the successful Canada-India Business Forum as well as the recently launched Canada-India Business Policy Dialogue. We are continuing to expand on our founding vision and are excited about the opportunities that years ahead will bring.” Rana Sarkar, President & CEO of the Council.
