Houston, Texas (PRWEB) November 19, 2012
According to USA Today, the Houston Chronicle and several other news sources, on Friday, November 16, a fire erupted on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, critically injuring at least four employees and causing two to go missing. According to witnesses, the tragic oil rig explosion sent a black plume of smoke up into the sky. The fire started when workers were using a torch top cut up an oil line, and the flame burst into a dangerous explosion when it came into contact with the flammable liquid. The fire was put out within hours, but not until workers had been severely injured and disfigured by the burns. Eleven workers on the rig were taken to area hospitals for treatment on the shore by emergency medical workers. Many are coated with burns all over their bodies.
The production platform where the explosion took place is owned by the Houston-based Black Elk Energy company. It is about 25 miles southeast of Grand Isle and is located on the western side of the Mississippi River delta. The Coast Guard claims that 24 people were aboard the platform when the fire erupted. This tragic accident is reminiscent of another explosion which occurred in April 2010, the Deepwater Horizon incident. This horrific explosion caused a fire that burned for over one day and caused toxic oil leaks all throughout the ocean. This tragic offshore explosion caused the death of 11 workers and created one of the nation’s largest environmental disasters.
When the Deepwater Horizon accident occurred, 27 crew-members turned to Arnold & Itkin, LLP. This is because these attorneys understand the implications of an offshore accident and are experienced in this area of law. Rather than hire a personal injury lawyer with a broad but shallow understanding of all personal injury practice areas, the crewmembers in the Deepwater Horizon accident wanted a lawyer that focused on offshore injury cases. This is a complicated area of law, so an attorney who is not very familiar with the details and nuances of offshore injury could make a damaging mistake and lose a case.
Arnold & Itkin, LLP have the knowledge to take on almost any maritime injury case, and the case results to prove that they know what they are doing. According to Time Magazine, 120 people were killed in the oil and gas industry in one year alone. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that in 2008, 21 employees died specifically in oil rig explosion which occurred at an offshore drilling location. There have been as many as 1,400 offshore drilling accidents between the years 2001 and 2007 alone, according to data collected by the U.S. Minerals and Management Service. Because of this, offshore injury attorneys are essential, but there are not many in the United States. Arnold & Itkin, LLP has been able to represent those that deserve a settlement and see the fruits of their labor.
This firm operates on contingency fees. This means that if a worker doesn’t receive a settlement in his or her offshore injury case, neither does the attorney from Arnold & Itkin, LLP.
