Up to half of male cancer cases could be prevented by simply making healthier diet and lifestyle choices. 365iT is proud to help shed light on this issue
(PRWEB UK) 20 November 2012
A respected UK IT services provider is aiming to help raise money for the unique Movember charity organisation – from the start of this month, clean shaven males at 365iT Services will attempt to grow and groom a moustache in order to support an international charity that seeks to "change the face of men's health".
The Movember Foundation began in 2004 in Melbourne, Australia, where the 30 founding members decided to grow a moustache for 30 days to raise awareness about prostate cancer and depression in men.
This idea grew to see to the development of a non-profit charity organisation that currently has participants across the globe – in 2011 alone supporting members raised as much as £79.3 million.
Movember's beneficiary partner in the UK is The Prostate Cancer Charity. Since it was set up in 1996, the charity has worked to fund research into fighting this disease as well as providing practical support to sufferers through their expanding information services.
In addition to raising awareness amongst Britons around the often ignored issue of men’s health, The Prostate Cancer Charity has played a significant role in the political debate about the right services and support to tackle prostate cancer.
UK based individuals as well as companies such as 365iT who wish to participate in the Movember cause need simply visit http://uk.movember.com to register. The site also allows people to make donations - all funds raised go directly to The Prostate Cancer Charity.
Programmes funded by the UK arm of Movember include Prostate Cancer UK and The Institute of Cancer Research which focusses on solutions to testicular cancer.
The organisation also works to bring about positive change in the area of depression in men through dedicated Awareness & Education programmes as well as on-going funded research.
A further important Movember initiative is their Global Action Plan. Launched in 2010, it aims to address critical challenges in prostate cancer research through facilitating the collaboration of leading researchers throughout the world.
Managing Director at 365iT, Peter Howells, commented on their participation in the Movember charity drive: “While our focus as a company is to provide best-practise IT solutions to help our clients gain maximum efficiency and ROI, we also feel strongly about supporting good causes. Growing a moustache becomes a talking point, creating a naturally strong verbal campaign that effectively raises awareness around a very important topic - up to half of male cancer cases could be prevented by simply making healthier diet and lifestyle choices. 365iT is proud to help shed light on this issue.”
