In an effort to promote organic farming, Colle farmers market is bringing awareness of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture’s movement to bring land owners and the farming community together.

On November 28, Colle farmers market, an online community for all things organic, responds to an article published by Boston NPR News concerning a movement started by the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture.

According to Boston NPR News, “[m]any farmers want their farms to be located close to a city - especially organic farmers who’d like to sell their produce at big urban farmers markets. But the price of land within range of a big city is sky high and only getting higher.” Boston NPR reports that while most farmers purchase land outright, “some are now looking to lease in suburban or exurban areas.”

T.J. Costa, a farmer that sought help from Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture representative Marilyn Anthony, stated, “Originally, we drafted a letter that we were going to drop in mailboxes. So there's a number of big open fields that, you know, driving around just didn't look well utilized. And, hey, let's drop a, you know, note in, say, here's who we are. Here's what we're looking for. Would you be interested?”

Boston NPR News reports that Costa “was able to create a farm-share program that allows city dwellers to purchase a percentage of his farm’s produce and stop by each week to pick it up.”

Colle farmers market supports the farming community and promotes the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture’s movement. Colle believes that organic food should be treated as a way of healthy living and not as a passing fad. More farmers are joining the organic movement and Colle wants to bring farmers and patrons together in hopes to increase organic product production. The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture is one step forward in expanding organic farming across North America.

"No matter what happens and what the weather is," Costa says, "that's a really huge avenue for support and encouragement and excitement. And so it really does make the hard work worth it."

Colle is an E-Commerce enabled farmers market community that is passionate about sustainable consumption and responsible conservation. The Colle movement is dedicated to connecting natural product vendors, organic farmers and all people who are living an organic and natural lifestyle with the ultimate goal of using more sustainable farming and consumerism.
