ScienceIndex.com is a Physics and Toxicology Sciences Social Network established in 1998 to index the very latest news, headlines, references and resources from science journals, books and websites worldwide. The site covers news in all fields of biology, business, chemistry, engineering, geography, health, mathematics and society. In the field of Chemistry Sciences, the site has now included the two new categories Physics and Toxicology. While the Physics section covers properties, interactions, processes, and laws of matter and energy, the Toxicology Chemistry section covers the nature, effects, and detection of poisons and the treatment of poisoning.
ScienceIndex.com's Chemistry Technology Category covers the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of substances. Its seven sections include Biochemistry, Food, Inorganics, Materials, Organics, Physics and Toxicology. Users can receive alerts for newly published content in this category by subscribing to ScienceIndex.com's Chemistry Technology Category RSS feed.
ScienceIndex.com's Physics Section covers covers properties, interactions, processes, and laws of matter and energy. It currently contains 91,414 articles derived from 366 scientific journals. The latest articles in this category are also available through a Physics Section RSS feed. One of the latest additions to this section covers a novel optical approach for extraction of remote vibration sources as a successful technique to estimate the alcohol concentration in blood stream. The authors' technique is based on the tracking of temporal changes of reflected secondary speckle patterns produced in human skin when being illuminated by a laser beam. The optical sensor is a potentially useful device for measuring alcohol in blood stream with subjects that can be car drivers inspected by police authorities or medically monitored patients. The section also features a novel nanoscale all-optical photonic crystal diode consisting of rectangular and square metals immersed in silicon. While this wideband high-contrast diode based on the self-collimation behavior can confine the light beams travel along a certain direction it does not require the input and output waveguides and is more feasible to combine with other functional devices in the complex integrated optical circuits.
ScienceIndex.com's Toxicology Section covers the nature, effects, and detection of poisons and the treatment of poisoning. It currently contains 7,914 articles derived from 37 scientific journals. The latest articles in this section are also available through a Toxicology Section RSS feed. One recently included article in this section presents placental concentrations of mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic and the risk of neural tube defects in a Chinese population. The authors of this study conclude that higher placental levels of Hg are associated with an elevated risk of neural tube defects in a Chinese population. Neural tube defects increased with increasing placental Hg levels and the dose-response pattern was present for both anencephaly and spina bifida subtypes. Another article covers molecular cloning and antifibrinolytic activity of a serine protease inhibitor from bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) venom. The authors identified a bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) venom serine protease inhibitor (Bt-KTI) that acts as a plasmin inhibitor. Bt-KTI strongly inhibited plasmin, indicating that it acts as an antifibrinolytic agent.
The newly redesigned Sciences Social Network currently contains over 1.92 million posts distributed among its' 75 categories. 82,400 users monitor 13,800 journals publishing within the scope of the site. Since new science content is discovered in real-time, the delay between original publication and appearance at ScienceIndex.com is no more than two days. The site provides an advanced search feature which suggests up to ten closely related articles for a search and every displayed post.
