Jobless Rate Falls in Texas, Finds 143,000 Jobs in Texas in November

Texas is leading the country in job creation with over 36,000 jobs created in October. has also found over 143,000 job openings in the state.



This brings the total number of jobs created in Texas this year to 277,000.

Employers in Texas added 36,600 new jobs in October, the highest since January. The increase in jobs was largely the result of an improvement in the state housing market as well as an overall growth in the consumer confidence resulting in more spending.

The addition of new jobs brings the state’s unemployment rate down to 6.6 percent from September’s 6.8 percent and is much lower than the nation’s unemployment rate of 7.9 percent. There were around 171,000 net jobs created nationwide in October, which means that Texas accounted for almost one-fifth of the new jobs.

The three main sectors that contributed to such a high number of jobs in Texas in October were construction, healthcare and education.

The boom in construction jobs, which accounted for 13,000 people getting employment, was driven by a housing rebound and is also creating a ripple effect in related industries such as real estate firms and furniture sales. has also found the healthcare sector to be a huge creator of jobs with over 38,000 job openings. The site’s data also shows that there are over 18,000 job openings in sales and IT each. Customer service and retail are two other major sources of jobs with over 8,000 and 9,000 job openings respectively.

The unemployment rate in Dallas and Fort Worth was just above 6 percent. has found 80,000 jobs in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area this month.
